The Nošovice car manufacturer Hyundai produced a total of 322,500 cars in 2022, marking a year-on-year increase of more than 17%.
The long-term most popular model, the TUCSON, accounted for over 70% of production, with an increased share of electrified variants.
This year, the Nošovice plant will start production of the new generation KONA Electric model, doubling the number of electric vehicles produced this year.
Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Czech (HMMC) in Nošovice produced a total of 322,500 cars last year, which is 47,500 vehicles more compared to the previous year. The last time a larger number of cars rolled off the production line in Nošovice was in 2018. Despite ongoing challenges in supply chains and other external negative factors, the car manufacturer exceeded its production plan by 1,000 vehicles.
Operations in 2022 were significantly affected by high energy and material prices, increased logistics costs, but most of all by uncertainties in parts deliveries. The shortage of semiconductor components was even more acute than in previous years. However, thanks to high demand, the Nošovice plant was able to flexibly adjust its production schedule based on currently available components, so there was no need to stop production lines.
The largest share of production in 2022 was again accounted for by the TUCSON model, which made up nearly 72% of the total production at the Nošovice plant. The popular SUV is available not only with internal combustion engines, including mild hybrids, but approximately 2 out of 5 TUCSON vehicles produced were hybrid or plug-in hybrid variants. The i30 model lineup accounted for 17% of production last year. The sporty Hyundai i30 N made up 2% of production. The Nošovice portfolio is complemented by the electric KONA Electric, which accounted for over 9% of production. Electric vehicles, hybrids, and plug-in hybrids together made up nearly 40% of production in 2022.
Among the biggest buyers of cars from Nošovice last year were Germany, the United Kingdom, Spain, and France. The TUCSON model is also heavily exported to countries in the Middle East and Near East. Just under five percent of last year’s production was destined for the Czech market. Cars manufactured in Nošovice last year are also driven, for example, in Hong Kong, New Caledonia, and on the islands of Mauritius and Madagascar. Overall, last year’s exports reached 65 destinations.
“We are pleased with the strong customer interest in our electrified models, thanks to which we significantly contribute to Hyundai’s leading position in electrification and commitment to a sustainable future. Moreover, this year we will start production of the new generation KONA Electric model, and we expect to double the number of purely electric vehicles.”
Changki Lee, HMMC President
Just like with other models produced at HMMC, a team of engineers from Nošovice worked closely on the development of the KONA Electric. The production plan for this year is set at 328,500 vehicles, and the production line speed will increase from the current 65 to 66 cars per hour. In light of upcoming new models, Hyundai Nošovice is investing significantly in new technologies and automation. Additionally, further investments aimed at energy savings are planned for this year.
As part of the gradual transition to electromobility, battery assembly for electrified vehicles began in Nošovice in November. Mobis Automotive Czech started a new operation in the former Transmission plant 2 hall, where manual transmissions used to be produced, focusing on battery assembly. Manual transmission production continues in the neighboring Transmission plant 1 hall. Besides HMMC, a major buyer of manual transmissions is the sister Kia manufacturing plant in Žilina. In the fall, Nošovice produced its milestone 5,000,000th transmission. Another occasion to celebrate was the 4,000,000th car from Nošovice, which in November was a Hyundai TUCSON N Line.
In 2022, not only production increased but also employee wages. The car manufacturer offers above-average financial compensation within the Moravian-Silesian Region, with the average monthly earnings for worker positions reaching 47,518 CZK in 2022.
