The predecessor of the Tucson at the Nošovice plant was the Hyundai ix35 SUV, with over 600,000 units produced between 2011 and 2015. The successful Tucson era at HMMC began in mid-June 2015. The previous generation, produced for more than five years, totaled 1,180,445 units. The current generation of the Tucson, which underwent a facelift earlier this spring, now accounts for approximately 70% of the plant’s production.
A few years ago, the current generation of the Tucson expanded the Nošovice plant’s portfolio to include hybrid and plug-in hybrid models. Both alternative powertrains are in high demand — in recent years, 2 out of every 5 Tucsons produced have been either hybrid or plug-in hybrid versions. Even after the facelift, which introduced a refreshed design, a new interior, and upgraded equipment, the Tucson continues to be available with a wide range of powertrains.
The milestone 2,000,000th Tucson — a 1.6 T-GDi HEV model in the color Sailing Blue Pearl, made for a customer in the United Kingdom — rolled off the Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Czech production line in Nošovice on Tuesday, June 18.
From Nošovice to All Corners of the World
“Tucson is the flagship model of our production plant not only because it accounts for more than 70% of our output and has been delivered to satisfied customers in 88 countries around the globe, but mainly because the previous generation, manufactured since 2015, marked the beginning of our deeper involvement in the preparatory phases of new model development. We began taking responsibility for the readiness of our production lines as well as the quality of the car itself. Thanks to the experience we’ve gained, we’re now able to respond to all challenges related to launching new models into production much faster and more professionally, both in terms of manufacturing and quality,” says Martin Klíčník, Head of the Production Division at HMMC.
In addition to European countries, significant customers of the Tucson from Nošovice also include nations from the Middle East and Near East. As for the current generation, most Tucsons have been shipped to the United Kingdom, Spain, Germany, and France. However, the SUV from Silesia also reaches more exotic destinations such as Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Uruguay, French Guiana, and Martinique. Since 2020, Tucson has been exported to more than 70 destinations worldwide.
In the Czech market, Tucson is the second most popular Hyundai model. According to SDA data, 6,495 vehicles were registered in 2023, confirming its steadily growing popularity among Czech customers. This is also reflected in sales within the private segment, where Tucson was the most sought-after SUV last year and, just behind the i30, the second best-selling model overall.
20 Years of the Tucson: Special Edition
