Hyundai i30, ix20, ix35, i30 N, TUCSON, KONA Electric, and even the Kia VENGA – these are the models, in various generations and facelifts, that have rolled off the production lines of Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Czech (HMMC) in Nošovice over the past 15 years. To date, more than 4.3 million vehicles have been produced – enough to circle the globe if lined up bumper to bumper. This November marked a symbolic milestone: the 15th anniversary of the start of mass production.

Production began with a single shift. A second shift was added in September 2009, and a third followed two years later. The plant’s record year in terms of volume was 2016, when 358,400 vehicles were manufactured.

The most-produced model to date at the Nošovice plant is the previous generation of the Hyundai TUCSON, built between 2015 and 2020, with 1.18 million units made. The Hyundai i30, produced continuously since the plant’s launch in 2008, has surpassed 1.3 million units across all its generations.

Successful Production Year for Hyundai Nošovice

By the end of October this year, 286,600 vehicles had rolled off the production lines—10,300 units above plan—suggesting that the total annual output could reach around 340,000 vehicles, exceeding the original target of 328,500. In comparison, 322,500 cars were produced last year. The plant’s flagship model remains the Hyundai TUCSON, accounting for over 70% of the total production.

The largest export markets for vehicles from Nošovice include Germany, the United Kingdom, Spain, and France. The TUCSON is also shipped in large numbers to countries in the Middle East and Gulf region.

While in 2016, the share of petrol and diesel engines was nearly equal, diesel now represents only 7% of total production. Around one-third of finished vehicles are regularly transported by rail, and this share is expected to grow further thanks to the recent launch of a third shift for rail car loading. A single fully loaded train replaces approximately 32 trucks, significantly contributing to environmental sustainability.

Electric Future and Broader Impact of Hyundai Nošovice

Hyundai Motor has committed to significantly increasing the share of zero-emission vehicles in its global sales over the coming years. Starting in 2035, all new Hyundai vehicles sold in Europe will be powered either by battery electric or hydrogen fuel cell technology, meaning that the company will exclusively offer zero-emission vehicles in the region. Reflecting this shift toward clean mobility, the portfolio of fully electric models produced at the Nošovice plant will continue to expand in the years ahead.

“Thanks to our high productivity and experienced workforce, HMMC plays a key role within the Hyundai Motor Group. The models we produce are popular among customers and meet the highest standards for safety, reliability, and quality. We are not afraid of new challenges or of a future shaped by eco-friendly mobility. We are the first non-Korean Hyundai plant to manufacture fully electric vehicles, which will form a significant part of our production going forward – and we are well prepared for this transition.”
Martin Klíčník, Head of the Production Subdivision

In preparation for upcoming developments, Hyundai Nošovice is investing significant resources into installing new technologies and advanced automation systems. This year, more than 40% of HMMC’s total production consists of hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and electric vehicles—a share that continues to grow. While until 2019, the plant produced only petrol- and diesel-powered cars, Hyundai KONA Electric entered production at the beginning of 2020, becoming the first mass-produced next-generation electric vehicle in the Czech Republic. In summer 2024, production of the second generation of the KONA Electric began. With the arrival of the new Hyundai TUCSON model in autumn 2020, production of hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants also commenced at the Nošovice plant. So far, around 665,000 units of this generation of the TUCSON have been produced.

Billions in Contributions to the State Budget

HMMC is a major contributor to the Czech state budget, regularly ranking among the top corporate income tax payers. In 2023, the company ranked 4th, having paid CZK 2.4 billion in corporate income tax. Altogether, HMMC has paid CZK 19.2 billion in corporate income tax since its establishment (including advance payments for 2023). From 2006 to 2022, additional contributions totaling nearly CZK 10 billion were made through employee-related payments—social and health insurance and personal income tax. These figures do not include further economic impact from the wide supplier network associated with the plant. Between 2006 and 2022, HMMC received investment incentives amounting to CZK 5.4 billion.

“We’ve contributed to the successful transformation of a region once affected by high unemployment. Our plant supports thousands of jobs at supplier companies. We are proud to be one of the most attractive employers in the region, as confirmed by industry surveys. As a socially responsible employer, we are committed to improving quality of life in the Moravian-Silesian Region through various projects, and on a national level, we rank among the driving forces of the Czech economy.”
Petr Michník, Head of the Administration Subdivision at HMMC
